[Daily Picks]
A widely shared r/LocalLLaMA post says DeepSeek alone accounted for 53% of all tokens processed on OpenRouter in a single day (about 27 trillion tokens in total), with open-weights labs together above 75%. The figures come from OpenRouter's public usage rankings as reported by the poster, so read them as a snapshot of one router's traffic, not of the whole market.
Why it matters for local users: when open-weight models dominate API traffic, the same weights you can download are being battle-tested at enormous scale—more quants, more tooling, faster bug reports. It also shows price sensitivity: heavy agent and coding workloads gravitate to whatever is cheapest per useful token.
Caveats: OpenRouter skews toward developers and agent frameworks; a few large apps can swing daily shares; token volume is not the same as quality or revenue.
Do you route agents through hosted open models, run them locally, or mix both?
