[Official FAQ] Corrections and follow-up questions welcome.
Aider is a terminal pair-programmer that proposes git-friendly patches from natural language. It works with cloud APIs and local OpenAI-compatible servers.
Where it shines / fails:
- Good for focused bugfixes and small features with a clean git state for easy rollback.
- Weak for huge multi-file redesigns on small local models that miss context.
- Never auto-apply everything on production configs without review.
Prefer stronger instruction-following coder models and adequate context. Share war stories with model names and quant levels.
