CUDA dominates server NVIDIA tooling. Metal is a primary acceleration path on Apple silicon. Vulkan is a cross-vendor GPU API used by some inference builds on AMD/Intel under Windows/Linux.
Intuition:
- Pick the backend your runtime documents for your OS/GPU.
- Do not compare tokens/s across backends as if variables were equal.
- Driver quality can dominate theoretical peaks.
Driver + version notes make benchmarks useful.
